Snellville to Host Grand Opening for The Grove at Towne Center on May 2
Snellville will host a day-long celebration to mark the grand opening of The Grove at Towne Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.
“This is a celebration we’ve been waiting to invite the community to for more than 20 years,” Mayor Barbara Bender said, noting that city officials had envisioned creating a downtown destination for decades before reaching this milestone.
The celebration kicks off with the Morning Stretch from 10 a.m. to noon on the lawn, where instructors from the city’s Active Adult Center and Burn Boot Camp will lead free yoga and exercise sessions. The Splash Pad will be open, with face painting, games and bounce houses for children. A DJ will provide music throughout the day, dignitaries will speak at 3 p.m. followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the Atlanta-based group The Happy Hour performs at 4 p.m. Food Passports ($30) let visitors sample offerings from twelve participating restaurants and eateries, with a drawing for $100 gift certificates afterward.
The Grove at Towne Center is a $140 million public-private partnership between the City of Snellville, Gwinnett County, MidCity Real Estate Partners and CASTO. The nine-building complex, anchored by a 750-space parking deck, is the city’s largest development undertaking and fulfills planning concepts first developed in the late 1990s.
